Voice Commands

All shades in the home are motorized and connected to Alexa. Use voice commands to control them by room or all at once.

  • Open All Shades
    Alexa, open all shades
    Opens every shade in the house for maximum natural light
  • Close All Shades
    Alexa, close all shades
    Closes every shade for privacy or to block light
  • Movie Night
    Alexa, movie night
    Theater and living room shades close automatically as part of the movie night scene
  • Good Morning
    Alexa, good morning
    Shades open gradually on the main floor to let in morning light
  • You can also control shades by room: "Alexa, close the bedroom shades"
  • Shades can be set to a percentage: "Alexa, set shades to 50%"
  • Each shade also has a manual button on the side rail if you prefer hands-on control

Room-by-Room Guide

Every window in the home has motorized blackout shades. Here is what is in each area:

  • Living Room
    Floor-to-ceiling shades on all windows. Full blackout capability for movie watching or sleeping in.
  • Master Bedroom
    Blackout shades for total darkness. Perfect for sleeping in or afternoon naps.
  • Theater / Basement
    Full blackout shades create a true cinema experience. Integrated with the movie night scene.
  • Office / Fourth Floor
    Shades reduce glare on screens while maintaining natural light from the balcony.
  • All Bedrooms
    Every bedroom has blackout shades for restful sleep regardless of the time of day.

Troubleshooting

  • Shade not responding to voice
    Try using the manual button on the shade's side rail. If the shade moves manually but not via voice, the Alexa connection may need a moment — wait 30 seconds and try again.
  • Shade stops mid-way
    This is normal — the shade may have auto-calibrated. Press the manual button once to resume movement.
